When Lead Flashing Needs Attention

Good leadwork is an important part of keeping vulnerable areas of a roof weatherproof. Those areas are the junctions: where a roof meets a wall or another roof slope.

Flashing that has lifted or split lets rain in behind it, and the first sign is a damp patch inside. Catching it early keeps the repair small.

  • Damp on a ceiling or wall Just below where the roof meets a wall
  • Flashing lifting or loose Lead that has come away from the wall it seals against
  • Slipped slates or tiles Gaps along a wall or valley that let rain in
  • Leaks at a valley Where two slopes meet and their rain runs together

A Stepped Flashing Along a Wall

On this roof, where the slates run along a stone wall, the junction is sealed with a stepped flashing running up the wall.

A stepped flashing is cut to follow the courses of the wall, so each step tucks into a joint and the flashing laps down over the slates below.

What Customers Say About H&M Roofing

Craig Suffolk Business Directory review

After dealing with a lot of roofers, several of them who seemed to be complete cowboys I am so glad that we went with H&M roofing. Tom and Jack were brilliant communicators, punctual and considerate.

Edward Taylor Google review

We were recommended H&M roofing by a friend of a friend. They came out to us when they said they would to quote for replacing our flat roofs on two porches. We were extremely happy with the quote and the work.
